Special Note from Chris / CS Designs: Those of you that follow in Recycle, Re-Purpose & Re-Invent / challenges, probably noticed that there was no challenge for August. Sorry about that, I have been really struggling with my health these days and the past couple of months have not been particularly a good month for me and even finding it difficult to be creative. Unfortunately my health is not something that is easily fixed but I'm willing to give up with what I love and promise to try my best to continue to keep the challenges going and inspire you with our challenges and the fabulous projects shared by all who enter.

This month for some wonderful inspiration is a beautiful Recycled and Altered Puzzle Piece project by  Brigitte from La maison de Coutureuse.   Who is Our Featured Guest Artist for this month.
Puzzle pieces are among my favorite projects these days and I am sure you will all agree that Brigitte has done an amazing job on hers.

 A little about Brigitte:   I'm french and I live on the west of France. I love mixed media, with paint, glue, paper, plaster, fabric, ink, stamps...  everything is perfect for me. This month I work with a digital stamp and a recycled puzzle.

Recycle, Re-Purpose & Re-Invent Challenge July 1-29 Must Recycle

July 1 - July 29 Always Anything Goes but Must Recycle:

Well, I hope everyone has been enjoying their summer. In BC, we have been getting alot more grey days and rain than sunny ones these days, hopefully that will change soon but I hope it does`nt get too, too hot as I do not function really well when it does.

 I really can`t believe that is July already, where has all the time gone, still though the changing time does bring lots of new things and wonderful things and today Canadians are celebrating Canada Day and I hope everyone across the country has a very happy and safe holiday.  The US 4th of July is also coming up soon and I wish our American Friends all the best as well.

UPDATE: June's Top 3

I really enjoy visiting our entry blogs and seeing all the amazing projects, which I am sure you have guessed makes the job of choosing our Top 3 so very, very difficult. It was a really hard decision again but I did manage to choose my absolute favorites and here they are.

Top 3 Winners for June in order submitted

Pat #1
Rupa # 4

Honorable Mention
Lou # 6

Special Recognition to
 a very young budding artist

Today I am also very excited to announce that our Returning Guest Artist for this month is Michele Storms` of Ink from the Well. I am sure you all loved what Michele created for us the last time she was here and sure you are going to love the project she created for us this time just as much.

 Michele`s project for this Month is a Beautiful Altered Harlequin Tin

I am delighted to be guest artist at the Doodle Artifacts challenge blog again.  It has been awhile since I've altered an Altoids tin so that it what I chose to work with this month.  The trick to altering an Altoids tin is lots of measuring, cutting and taking your time!   I use the tin itself to trace onto designer paper to get the correct sizes and then I carefully cut the papers and adhere them with mod podge.

The next step is again about patience while the freshly glued lid and bottom dry.  For the insides of the tin I still use the outside of my tin to trace the shape on paper but when I cut it out I cut a bit inside the traced line.

On the top of this tin I’ve used a harlequin digital image and a lovely digital sentiment, both by CS designs.  The designer paper, border, flowers and enamel dots are my own stash items.

The bottom of the tin is covered in digital paper also from CS designs, the "spiral diamond" design which I printed on colored paper.

Although I carefully measured and cut various designer papers for the outside and insides of the tin, the sides of the tin are covered in washi tape -- very convenient as they are sized about right and stick well on their own.  Though I recommend using some Scor-tape under the washi tape to help it stay put long term.  I hope you will play along this month.  I look forward to visiting your blogs and seeing what you create!

 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 About Michele: I love love love to create and my favorite thing is collage.  Give me some pretty papers, some vintage images, some stamps (digital or rubber) and laces and ribbons, inks and glue and I am good to go.  A fellow crafter encouraged me to start blogging in 2010 and since starting my blog art from the well I have not looked back.  Though card making is always a favorite activity because they are easy to give away, blogging has gotten me to try many other things from ATCs to “moos” to “twinchies” to art journals to canvases and I’ve recently gotten interested in recycling, re-purposing and reinventing so it is an extra pleasure to serve as guest designer for the doodle artifacts blog!  Participating in swaps and challenges has helped me to grow as an artist.  On the personal side I have a busy day job, a husband and grown kids (a crotchety cat) as well as many community activities that mean a lot to me.  Creating things at my kitchen table spot gives me joy.  And since I love working with beautiful images and products I’m honored to work with the wonderful stamps from CS Designs.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Thank you Michele, what an inspiration and I`m so glad you included a how-to. You make it look so easy and I can`t wait to try this myself.
For  all of those of you who would like to Visit Michele and see what else she has to say about her project, please visit her blog Art from the Well.

Hope everyone will go check it out and thank her for sharing such a beautiful project. Happy Creating everyone and look forward to seeing the wonderful things you have for us this month.

Special Note to All Our Previous Winners, Please Read ... I just noticed that all the winners badges with the codes to place them on winning sites, somehow went missing from our Winners Page. (I am guessing with the last page update) Sorry about that, they are all back now so if one of your projects was selected as either Top 3, Honorable Mention or Special Recognition and you have not claimed your badge, please go Our Winners Page and claim it now. :) Chris / CS Designs

Time to admit I am sometimes a little overwhelmed:
I have been struggling with health issues for quite a while now and sometimes when I am not doing well, time gets away from me, which also includes things related to my art. This month's Recycle, Re-Purpose & Re-Invent challenge was a bit late and hope everyone will accept my most sincere apologies if this has caused you any inconvenience. This is especially true for our Winners, I am sorry it took so long to choose, but I wanted a chance to visit all your blogs and read all your posts before making the selections, and yes I always read your entire post, which also gives me a much bigger appreciation of the imagination and work that goes into your wonderful pieces.

You will find our Winners for both April and May at the top of this post as well as thumbnails showcased on the left sidebar. Thank you all for your patience and for continuing to play in our challenges. I used the sewing kit and colored all the images with my promarkers. The box is decorated with a dp I had since before and then the inside is decorated with washi tape with a sewing theme.

Added all the images with 3D pillows, double sided tape and glue dots, made some support from scraps behind a few of the images.

Added fuzzy string and some other small pieces to the box as well. The name is printed in word and I used my MS Lace punch to created the border around it.

For the Anything Goes challenges there will still always be a Top 3 chosen and those that make Top 3 will announced in our next post and Winners page and receive a badge to show off on the side bar of their own blogs.

Featured Guest for this month is Judy McKay

This is what I started with to make my Queen for a Day shadow box.  I am sorry it is in pieces.
  I forgot to take my picture before I started taking it a part.

This is my finished  project.

Below are a couple of other views of the shadow box

 I used four digital designs from the CS Designs collection of fabulous digital stamps.  The Dancer Pirouette, Polka and Dot Mini Border images are from the Express Yourself series.  The crown on the dancer's head is part of Edwina's crown image and the sentiment is part of a Express yourself Postage design.

I used a piece of inked torn music paper on the outside of the clock, silver cord to trim the inside of the box and added a heart to the top.  I had lots of fun with this challenge.

Designs used in Judy's project are from CS Designs
and can be found by clicking on the images below

We have lots of great news this Month:

CS Designs now has a Facebook Group and we invite you all to Come & Join us.

Yippee!!! Happy Note from Chris,
 I'm being featured on the Unruly Paperarts Ezine this month!!!  I was so surprised and happy to receive an email from Danie of the Unruly Papercrafts online Ezine inviting me to be one of their Guest Artists for March, which is all about recycling in art. How wonderful is that, I created 3 project for them which will be featured on the 27th and I have included a sneak peek at the bottom of this post, but in the mean time you can also go read My Interview which is online now.

If you visit there and read my interview please leave a comment, I would love to know you dropped by.

We are also pleased to say that Michele Storms is here again as our Guest to share her fabulous work with you, Thank you Michele, it is lways such a pleasure to see your work and so happy you could join us and share your wonderful creations with our readers.

About Michele: I love love love to create and my favorite thing is collage.  Give me some pretty papers, some vintage images, some stamps (digital or rubber) and laces and ribbons, inks and glue and I am good to go.  A fellow crafter encouraged me to start blogging in 2010 and since starting my blog art from the well I have not looked back.  Though card making is always a favorite activity because they are easy to give away, blogging has gotten me to try many other things from ATCs to “moos” to “twinchies” to art journals to canvases and I’ve recently gotten interested in recycling, re-purposing and reinventing so it is an extra pleasure to serve as guest designer for the doodle artifacts blog!  Participating in swaps and challenges has helped me to grow as an artist.  On the personal side I have a busy day job, a husband and grown kids (a crotchety cat) as well as many community activities that mean a lot to me.  Creating things at my kitchen table spot gives me joy.  And since I love working with beautiful images and products I’m honored to work with the wonderful stamps from CS Designs.

Michele's Project: art from the well
I’m quite excited about what I’ve made for the last two weeks of March, several altered playing cards.  The creation starts with slathering some plain playing cards with gesso.

The next step was using a variety of spray inks and ink pads to color the cards.  I colored 6 cards though in the end I only used five of them.

I also did some background stamping on some of the cards though I forgot to photograph that step.

I selected several images from CS Designs, colored them with pencils and cut them out.  I worked with several images from the masculine, woman head shots and carnival collections although at the point I colored them I didn't yet know which ones would end up getting used and I did not use them all.

To create the final cards i used a combination of letters, washi tape, brads and other embellishments.  I love my final results!

(use either the individual photos of the 5 cards or just the 2 photos)

And now More Fabulous Inspiration from Our Amazing Team

Judy's Project: Judy
 This is what I started with for this project.

Wooden lid from a box, silver Duck tape, and plain and textured cardboard paper.

Shower hooks and napkin ring

This is what I ended up with

I covered my box with the silver Duck Tape and lined the inside of the project with the textured card board that I got from a friend.  It's original use was the wrapping off of her stained glass that she purchased it.  I dried brushed the textured  paper with silver acrylic paint.  I really liked the effect.  The metal rose and the hanger at the top of the box is a napkin ring that I took a part.

I used a few of CS Designs images from their Steampunk digital stamp collection. I used Solitaire Heavy metal , Metal phrases,  and a sentiment from the  Artistic Sentiment collection called Somewhere Between Chance and Mystery. The two metal pieces holding the words are part of a set of shower rings that I purchased at a thrift store.

Different View

I added a few more recycle findings from my stash to complete the project.  I used more than 10 recycled articles in this project.    I had lots of fun putting this project together.

Recycle Re-Purpose Re-Invent Mar1-Mar14

Recycle Re-Purpose Re-Invent Mar1- Mar14

Always Anything Goes but Must Recycle

We are so happy to see you back for another challenge, we are just loving what you share with us and your projects bring us much inspiration.

Note about our Challenge Winners.

Before we share all the wonderful projects by the Team I want to bring up the topic of the Winners for our last few challenges. Due to some matters having to do with my home life, I have been struggling to keep on top of things here and have delayed announcing the winners from our previous challenges going back to Feb. The fact that everyone has submitted such wonderful projects has also compounded this but I have given this alot of thought and decided to give everyone that has join our challenges where no winners have been selected a couple of designs from my new soon to be launched Curious, Collectables and Ephemera collection.

Now we also have a bit of Team News. Rocky who joined us for our last challenge has decided to step down because she received a position she has been waiting for from another company and we want to than her for the lovey project she shared with us and wish her all the best in her new endeavor. We also hope with the oppertunity presents itself that she will come back and join us as a Guest.

This Month's Guest Artist

This month, I am also so happy to announce that we have a fabulous Guest Artist. Michele from Art at the Well is here to share a lovely project with you and we hope you will all make her feel welcome and let her know how much you love what she has created for us. Thank you Michele, such a pleasure to finally have a chance to work with you my friend. :)

 I love love love to create and my favorite thing is collage.

For this project I started with a 4x3 inch composition book – I have a bunch of these because I was helping a friend move and she was about to throw these away because her kids had grown up and never used them! I covered the composition book, front and back, with a digital background paper from CS designs called "circle twirls" which I'd printed on dark green paper. I used a piece of brown book binding tape to make the new book binding border.  I also sized and printed digital stamps from the "women head shots" and "masculine collage pieces" sets onto light brown Kraft paper.  I carefully cut out the male and female images along with the clock.  The final piece was a sentiment from the "mystery and imagination" series which I also sized and printed on Kraft paper and cut out.

I came up with an arrangement I liked but I needed something to break up the dark colors from the images and the paper.  A trip to my stash provided the solution: I used stickers from my stash, one with a musical score in the background, one with script and one with the word "enchantment" to create additional background interest for the piece so I arranged these on the dark paper and adhered the CS Designs people and clock on top of the stickers.  The final stage was adding some flowers in the corners and one last round sticker to complete this piece.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And now for some Fabulous projects by our Wonderful Team
This is what I started with for the project but in the end did not use two of the wooden books and the old silver penny bank.
This is my completed project.
Closer look
I used two of CS Design's from their new Vintage images.  I also used copies of some original prescriptions that I found at an antique store in Superior, Arizona and used a copy of my antique printed paper bag.
This wooden book that I antiqued originally was part of a set of three that had a wooden teddy bear sitting on it.  The bear was used in another project.
Top of the Assemblage
I added a wooden knob to the top of the box , added a metal star , more prescriptions and a ink pen.   I love the new vintage images that can now be found in the CS Designs Digital Stamp Store.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I created this as a Team project for Altered Eclectic but wanted to share it here because the enchanting little clown and the sentiment are the two designs I will be giving to (all our winners) I mentioned at the beginning of this post.
 You can read more about this project on my
 We hope you have enjoyed our projects and look forward to seeing some projects from you. We love knowing what you think so please leave us a comment.

The designs used by Michele and the Team for this challenge are all part of the new Curious, Collectables and Ephemera Digital Stamp Collection that will soon be available in the CS Designs Shop. When available I will post it here, in the shop and on my Doodle Pieces blog.

Recycle Re-Purpose Re-Invent Feb15 Feb 28 Must Recycle

Any Thing Goes but must Recycle: Feb 15 - Feb 28

It is always such a pleasure to see all the wonderful projects you all continue to share with us.  Your creativity and imagination is so inspiring to us and we hope you will continue to visit us. :)

Our Main Theme is always Anything Goes but remember you must recycle in your project. Along with the Anything Goes Theme our Team usually picks an additional theme that reflects in the projects we share with you and for this challenge it is called Out of this World..

A Note about Our Winners: We were going to announce past winners today, but this will be delayed until March. I have been ill and have gotten quite behind in things lately and I have not had a chance to visit all your sites yet. Once I have done this, the team and I will choose winners for all the challenges we have not yet posted winners for. We haven't forgotten you, we just need more time and thank you all for being so patient.

An now from some  inspiration from Team Member Judy who is sharing her Out of this World project.

This is what I started with for my project although I did end up needing more cardboard.

This was my completed Project.

I used one of CS Designs' digital stamps from the Celestial design stamps series called Celestial Goddess Montage Square.  I fell in love with this image.  I used this woven tray I had that was a tray that held a sliver plate and large candle. I thought it made a nice frame for the goddess. I covered that frame with some black and silver napkins I had and glues them down with gel medium.  The stars were cut out of the boxes I had then painted with silver paint. To give the stars more life I added some doodling.

The background of the image was coloured with Copic Markers and glitter. I cut out a second image of the face and layered it over the original image and coloured it with PanPastels.

The sentiment is also from CS Designs and is from the Stars and Celestial Sentiment digital collection. I think it is a very beautiful saying.
